Some people among us may not be aware that in recent years, some courier services have introduced Cargo services. This Cargo service can be utilized by senders who wish to send items with a considerable volume or weight. This is because Cargo services have more economical shipping costs compared to regular services when the package being sent has a substantial volume or weight.
Generally, to utilize Cargo services, it is advisable that the minimum shipment meets the criteria of at least 10 kg in weight or a volume equivalent to 10 kg. It should be noted that the formula for calculating the weight based on the volume of the item for Cargo services is: Length (cm) x Width (cm) x Height (cm) / 4000. This is different from regular courier services, where the divisor is 6000.
For example, to calculate the volumetric weight of an item with dimensions 70 cm x 70 cm x 70 cm, the volumetric weight would be 70 x 70 x 70 / 4000 = 85.75 kg.
If the weight calculated based on volume is greater than the actual weight in kilograms, the volumetric weight is used. This follows the same rule as regular courier services.
Cargo services are particularly suitable for online businesses or online store owners selling large volume items such as furniture, materials usually required in large volumes/weights, and some couriers even offer services for shipping motorcycles and other items. By activating Cargo services, business owners can send large volume/weight items to locations outside the city at shipping costs that are more appealing to online store customers.
Currently, Cargo services are available in the following couriers:
- JNE with the name JTR (JNE Trucking). Maximum weight per package: 249 kg (reference from Tokopedia).
- Sicepat with the name Sicepat Gokil (Cargo Kilat). Maximum weight per package: 50 kg (reference from Tokopedia).
- Anteraja with the name Anteraja Cargo. Maximum weight per package: 300 kg.
- Tiki with the name Tiki TRC (Trucking Service).
- Id Express with the name Id Express Cargo.
- Ninja with the name Ninja Cargo.
- AP Express with the name SAP Express Cargo.
Additionally, some couriers specialize in Cargo services exclusively:
- J&T Cargo
- Indah Logistik Cargo
- Sentral Cargo
For local deliveries, people usually opt for large volume/weight items using online motorcycle services like:
- Grab Express Bike
- Gojek Gosend
- Lalamove
- Paxel
or other instant/sameday services because they can be more economical compared to Cargo services.
For items that cannot be transported by motorcycle, there is an option to use cars. The advantage of this option is that the sender can choose the size and type of car available for the delivery, such as vans, open pickup trucks, box trucks, single axle trucks, Fuso, Tronton, and so on. Some couriers that offer car rental services include:
- Gojek Gobox
- Grab Express Car, with a single option for maximum delivery of 150 kg and dimensions 100cmx100cmx100cm.
- Lalamove. Terdapat opsi untuk menambahkan layanan ekstra tenaga pengangkut untuk membantu memindahkan barang.
- Deliveree. Terdapat opsi untuk menambahkan layanan extra tenaga pengangkut untuk membantu memindahkan barang.
So, for large-sized item deliveries within the city, people usually use online motorcycle services or car rentals. Meanwhile, if you want to send large volume/weight items outside the city, you can use Cargo services or delivery services with online car rentals like Lalamove, Deliveree, and so on. All these options can be considered when planning a delivery."
Example: Shipping using JNE Regular service within Jakarta, for instance, costs Rp. 9,000 per kg. Whereas, shipping with JNE Trucking service is Rp 40,000 for the first 10 kg. Therefore, if one intends to send a package weighing 10 kg using JNE Regular service, the sender will incur a cost of Rp. 9,000 x 10 kg = Rp. 90,000. Meanwhile, if using JNE Trucking service, the cost is Rp. 40,000 for 10 kg. Thus, the cost efficiency of using cargo service in this case is 55.56%.
